This evening, our major restoration effort to repair and paint the Lee-Fendall House was completed with the re-hanging of the last of the shutters by acting president Ed Horn. Thanks to our exterior restoration partner, HomeWorks Painting, the museum has been restored to reflect its 1850s appearance.
The new look of the building is based on careful research. With great attention to detail, the house is now restored to approximate the oldest well-documented color scheme of the structure. “This is a house with over two centuries of history behind it,” said Shawn Eyer, Executive Director. “We knew that restoring its color scheme to a more historic era would align with current best practices for the care of historic properties. The major change in our appearance has had the added benefit of generating fresh interest in the museum itself.”
Funding for this important project has been generously provided by the Historic Alexandria Foundation, Spring2Action donors, and the Members and Friends of the Lee-Fendall House.
