At Home with Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee

At Home with Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee is the Lee-Fendall House Museum's America250-themed exhibit exploring the remarkable ties between the historic house and one of the Revolutionary War's most celebrated figures. Learn how Henry Lee III earned the nickname "Light Horse Harry" Lee, his connections to Alexandria, and how members of his family continued to live in and own the property for over 100 years.  

This exhibition is made possible through the generous support of the Alexandria Historical Society.

Exhibit admission is included with a general admission ticket.

Dog Days of Lee-Fendall: Historic Hounds and Their Influence on Lee-Fendall’s Current Collection

Permanent Exhibition opening August 26, 2026.

This miniature exhibit will explore the home’s history from an entirely new perspective: the canine companions of Lee-Fendall residents. A variety of families and individuals called 614 Oronoco Street home from 1785 until 1972, but it was not until the end of the 19th century that dogs began to settle here as well. Historical record points to at least four dogs living at Lee-Fendall with both renters and homeowners over the final one-hundred years of residency.

Through Lee-Fendall’s modern collection, this exhibit will exemplify the role of dogs in American households while simultaneously familiarizing visitors with the home’s four legged residents. Novelty items, decorative arts, and historical images are just some of the ways in which Lee-Fendall’s collection continues to celebrate the existence of pups in the historic house.
