Derby Style Meets Art and Wine at Spring Fundraiser

On May 2, Lee-Fendall celebrated its second annual Wine & Art Night fundraiser. During a cool spring evening, more than 50 guests gathered in the garden in their Kentucky Derby best to enjoy wine tastings, art showcases, live music, and a silent auction.

Mint juleps were set aside in favor of nine carefully selected wines curated by Wine Gallery 108 owner Lisa Katic. Tastings were included with admission, with Cuvée Françoise Brut and the 2022 Matthews Cabernet Sauvignon emerging as guest favorites. While glasses and bottles were available for purchase during the event, these selections can also be found at Wine 108 for future enjoyment.

Four artists from across the DMV area showcased their work: Candace Stribling, Kristi Noel, Sola Ope, and Khadija Sareshwala. Artwork sales from the evening directly benefited both the artists and the museum.

Lee-Fendall was honored to welcome back Mayor Alyia Gaskins for the second year in a row. In her remarks, Mayor Gaskins highlighted the museum’s 52nd year as a historic house museum, the upcoming Semiquincentennial in 2026, and the strong representation of women-owned and women-led organizations featured in the event, including Wine Gallery 108, the participating artists, and the museum itself.

The evening also featured a robust silent auction focused on experiences, including a private shopping party at Sara Campbell and a VIP tour and tasting at Alexandria’s Port City Brewing Company. Throughout the night, guests enjoyed live Hot Club jazz performed by DC Ambiance, led by Randy Stein, which filled the garden with energy and charm.

Wine & Art Night would not be possible without the support of numerous organizations and individuals. The museum extends its gratitude to Wegmans, its nine Sommelier Sponsors, the Zebra Press for its continued partnership, and the dedicated board and staff who make year-round programming possible. We look forward to welcoming guests back for another evening of wine and art in 2027!
